This season's skirt

This skirt takes me back to the noughties, when I was 14 and tiered ruffle skirts were all the rage. We used to wear them with a spaghetti strap top and huge oversized belt slug round the hips. Or, worse, three-quarter length leggings. Thankfully, this time round things are a little more elegant.

In this season's mini-skirt, the unforgiving tiered ruffles of the noughties have been replaced with a figure-flattering asymemetric frill and a pair of pedal pushers are nowhere to be seen (thank God). This Topshop skirt has been all over Instagram recently, and unsurprisingly, has sold out online (but if you REALLY want one, some dickhead bought them all and is selling them for £55 on eBay). I got lucky and found one left in my local store - devastated that it was a size too big, and then delighted to find out that they run small and I needed to size up.

I kept things simple with this outfit to let the skirt do all the talking, teaming it with classic tortoiseshell glasses, a tan leather bag, a white vest and Converse. For a little bit of interest up top, I picked out a pretty vest with ruffled armholes.

Here are some similar shaped skirts to take your fancy:
