Thaikhun comes to Brighton & Hove

Deliveroo came to Brighton last year and transformed the takeaway game; no longer are we limited to pizza, chinese or curry. We've treated ourselves to a fancy gourmet indian, ordered in a health-concious dinner and even had breakfast delivered. And it seems the people in Brighton & Hove are just as obsessed with ordering in, as Deliveroo have just launched the first 'Deliveroo Editions' kitchen outside of London, in Hove!

Deliveroo Editions is a shared kitchen-only space, that allows local restaurants to expand their business via takeaway customers, without having to invest in new premises or over-stretch their current kitchens - and makes the Deliveroo service available to the people of Portslade and Hove for the first time. Six restaurants will now operate out of the new kitchen, including Deliveroo favourites GBK and Chilli Pickle and some local independent restaurants. I decided to try out a restaurant that is entirely new to Deliveroo; Thaikhun.

I love Thai street food, and it seemed like a healthy-ish yet satisfying option to enjoy after teaching a VERY hot and sweaty Zumba class (I was knackered and there was no way I was cooking that night!). I pre-ordered the food to arrive at 8.30 (giving me time to have a quick shower after my class) and it arrived just as I'd got my pj's and the telly on. Perfect. (And here I'll mention that the photos are crap because I just couldn't wait to eat it!)

Thaikhun takeaway in Hove

The sweetcorn cakes I ordered to start were absolutely incredible - little sweetcorn fritters flavoured with red curry and lime. May or may not have had the left overs for breakfast the next day...

Then for my main I ordered coconut rice and 'Gia Phad Med', which was a chicken and cashew stir fry. The chicken was in a light crispy batter (kind of like Chinese Hong Kong Style, but much lighter) and mixed with pepper, spring onion and onion in a sticky chilli, but not spicy, sauce. The coconut rice was lovely too; sticky and delicately fragranced.

I think Thaikhun might just be one of my new favourites on Deliveroo - it's a shame they don't have an actual restaurant in Brighton and Hove but I guess I'll be ordering in every time I want Thai food now!
