Maybe it's something to do with having been brought up in the countryside by a mother who used to spend her spare time litter picking and growing her own vegetables, or living in a city run by the Green Party, but as I get older I'm beginning to feel more and more guilty about how wasteful I can be and what impact all my empty shampoo bottles, moisturiser tubs and makeup tubes are having on the environment once they've been taken away by the bin men. (When they're not on strike - you did NOT want to be in Brighton a few weeks ago, I can tell you! Gross!)
So when I heard about new eco-conscious cosmetics brand, Fillanew, I was excited to try some of their natural, handmade and refillable lip balms*. These ultra moisturising, environmentally friendly and gorgeously scented lip balms are made purely from beeswax, jojoba and avocado oil and shea and cocoa butter, a list which sounds refreshingly simple and natural - so think how good they must be for your skin!
I tried out the vanilla, strawberry and (my favourite) peppermint flavours, all of which were lovely! A fourth, orange flavour is also available, which sounds delicious! The lip balms feel so nourishing (perfect for sorting dried out skin in this heat) and stay on fairly well too.
Fillanew's plan is to provide refills so that when the time comes to replace your lip balm, you help to save the planet little by little, by reusing your packaging again.
Lip balms are Fillanew's only product range at the moment, although the lovely founder, Sarah, told me that they're also working on a range of shampoo and conditioners. Follow +Fillanew to hear updates on their new product launches! I certainly will be - and I'm sure my Mum will too!
