Lashes & Manicure Masterclass at The Lanes Health & Beauty

Last Thursday, I spent a lovely evening at The Lanes Health and Beauty- a cute little salon tucked away down Market Street in Brighton's South Lanes, themed around four of Hollywood's most glamorous actresses. From the moment you step through the door, the salon is ultra glam and girly with hot pink walls, a diamanté encrusted desk and photographs of the salons inspirational beauty icons: Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Ava Gardner and Brigitte Bardot. Downstairs is a Hollywood nail bar, pedicure chairs and a lash & brow bar and a huge collection of Essie nail polishes. Up the spiral staircase, there are four treatment rooms, each one inspired by aforementioned actresses. No detail has been spared, even a bottle of Chanel No 5 (Marilyn's favourite perfume) has been placed in the Marilyn room.

As we arrived for a beauty masterclass in how to achieve a professional manicure and perfectly apply strip lashes, salon owner Julie Coates got the pink fizz flowing and brought out an impressive stand of delicious mini cupcakes. I was first up to get my lashes applied and pick up some (much needed) tips on how to apply them properly. I don't often wear fake eyelashes, so was super excited to see what they looked like! I picked out a natural looking pair of Ardell lashes which the lovely lash technician cut to the size of my eyes. She then applied them using black glue, which once dried looks like eyeliner and avoids the dreaded white-glue-on-eyelids situation. She allowed the glue to dry a little and go tacky before positioning the lash- this helps the lash to stay in place and not slip around.

Next, after a cupcake break and a catch up with all the other girls, it was my turn for a file and polish. I spent way too long trying to pick a colour from the salons rainbow of Essie polishes, but eventually decided on 'Madison Ave-hue' from the new spring collection. Whilst I was nattering away to the manicurist, I picked up some top tips for a pro polish. After filing, she removed any debris and excess oil with nail polish remover to help the polish to apply smoothly. Then, after a base coat and two coats of colour, she painted under the tips of my nail to avoid chipping. She finished off with a coat of Seche Vite, a high shine, fast drying topcoat which is somewhat of an industry secret. I've just treated myself to a bottle of this magical stuff and can honestly say, believe the hype- it really is amazing and dries completely in an instant!

I'll definitely be returning to the salon for some pampering soon, perhaps I'll treat myself to a facial or get a spray tan before baring my legs when the sun finally decides to put his hat on! Julie and her girls offer a huge range of treatments at The Lanes Health and Beauty, along with a friendly atmosphere, high quality services and glamorous surroundings. Check out the website to see which treatments take your fancy!

If you live in Brighton or visit for the weekend, will you be visiting The Lanes Health and Beauty? What are your favourite treatments to treat yourself to at a salon?
