With the party season just around the corner, I was super excited to be invited to Trevor Sorbie in Brighton to be shown this seasons hottest hairdos; retro waves, sleek and straight and a modern take on the French pleat.
The stylists talked us through the looks step-by-step, dishing out their best tips and tricks along the way. I loved the French pleat, but my favourite look was the soft, retro waves, which was done by Anna Chapman who is nominated for Southern Hairdresser of the Year at the British Hairdressing Awards. The winner will be announced tomorrow evening and having seen a sneak peek of her entry images, I'm sure she stands a high chance of winning- they were stunning!
Anna created the wavy look by using a curling wand (as opposed to tongs) and curled the hair away from the face. Her top tip for ultimate staying power was to pin the curls up for as long as possible before letting them loose. Then, to create the glamorous, retro vibe, she brushed the curls through with a natural bristle brush.

I was treated to a re-style, and obviously opted for the curls. The stylist, Rosie, suggested prepping the hair with a salt spray to give a bit of texture to keep the waves in place for longer. My new 'do stayed in until the next morning (until I got caught in torrential rain and walked into work looking somewhat bedraggled!) Coincidentally, I was gifted a bottle of Trevor Sorbie Salon X-Clusive Beach Hair Salt Spray in my goodie bag, which I have been using to try and tame my hairstyles in windy Brighton! It works pretty well as a 'primer' to keep sleeker styles in place, but also makes creating messy beach waves so easy just by spraying and scrunching.
What do you think of these hair trends? Which one is your favourite? Will you be giving them a go at home?
