Birds of Paradise

Now, any of you who live in cheaply rented accommodation will know that it can get rather dreary and depressing with the landlords' safe brown carpets and plain magnolia walls. I'm one of those people that gets really affected by my surroundings, and being trapped in a rubbish mouldy house with no personality or warmth drives me mad.
Anyway, in a desperate hunt for an injection of girly prettiness to my room, I started scouring the internet for wall stickers. I'd always thought wall stickers were tacky designs for children's rooms, (I used to have sparkly 'Groovy Chick' ones when I was about 11) but I actually found some really nice designs. A lot of websites were very pricey but I persisted on eBay and after a while of filtering through all the junk, I came across these

Very cute and also more than reasonably priced at £2.44 per pack! However, the design still wasn't exactly what I had envisioned, so I ordered three packs and got creative....

...and I'm so pleased with the results! The stickers were even nicer in real life, the birds have a subtle glittery sheen to them, and I love how you can arrange the pieces either as one motif or scattered over a whole wall. It's such a quick, easy, cheap and temporary way to bring some personality to a rented flat, without damaging the paintwork as they're designed to peel off without any marks. I have always been desperate to decorate my room with the Laura Ashley 'Summer Palace' wallpaper and I think I have recreated it rather well! What do you think?

  1. I really like the original design but I think what you've done is much better :)

I love what you've done with your wall and the lights are a lovely touch.

My favourite though, is the design around your mirror. You're so creative! :)
